What Does the Center for Community Building to End Poverty Believe?

  • We believe that community is a lifestance of connectedness with those around us
  • We believe that community building is central to ending poverty and supporting economic security
  • We believe that economic security is providing for the needs of one’s family consistently
  • We believe that poverty is complex and that economic security requires multiple personal assets, community assets, and supportive state and national policies

What is the Center for Community Building to End Poverty?

  • A national model of inclusive community building, leadership development, training and empowerment
  • A “go to” organization for best practices and community education to end poverty
  • A collaborative partnership between and among University of Idaho Extension, Community Action Partnership and the Spirit Center at the Monastery of St. Gertrude and hundreds of partners known and unknown throughout the Northwest

What Will the Center for Community Building to End Poverty Do?

By the year 2020, we will:

  • Recruit 500 leaders who are committed to ending poverty
  • Develop 10 formalized partnerships throughout Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana
  • Engage 80 communities regionally in community building strategies to end poverty
  • Initiate Circles™ Initiatives in communities throughout the region
  • Become an accessible, regional source of data and best practices regarding the impact of poverty and models for addressing it
  • Communicate and disseminate data and best practices regionally
  • Advocate for the development of social policy aligned with the Center's Vision, working with regional partners and using data
  • Target resources toward reducing poverty in our region
